Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Program
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu for Kids
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is a great choice for kids as a martial art, sport or for fun. At Gracie Minchinbury we help teach them not only self-defense but about positive lifestyle changes. This allows your child to become fit, confident and better members of the community.
Unlike other sports there is development of unique skills when training Jiu-Jitsu. Leadership, problem solving and self-reliance improve from day one. These skills help the kids learn to care and respect for others. They will encounter many challenges while training. Solving these problems while under pressure helps them develop a calm attitude.
Learning to lose is a big part of Jiu-Jitsu for kids. This helps develop their character as we help them deal with their problems. This carries over to the real world as well. They learn that when they’re challenged in life to stay calm, breathe and to look for an answer.
There is a great social benefit for kids and adults when learning Jiu-Jitsu. Training, talking, laughing and engaging with other peers helps develops their social skills. Many great friendships are forged through this comradeship on the mats.
Our younger kids have more of a focus on self-defense and control. They are not taught submissions unless competing. This gives your child a way to protect themselves without violence.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for Self-Defense
We understand using a martial art to defend yourself would be a last resort. For that reason we teach them other elements of self defense. Things such as verbal de-escalation, distance management and situational awareness.
Their classes are generally structured as warm up – technique – sparring. There will be a common theme or technique for each week. This assures us that anyone attending class once a week doesn’t miss out.
Jiu jitsu games are a part of the curriculum to help develop skills and keep it fun. These games help develop strength or have razilian Jiu-Jitsu skills incorporated.
Kids 9 and over will focus only self-defense but also the sport element of Jiu-Jitsu. Submissions and counters are taught in a safe environment. This will prepare our students better for competition if they decide to enter.
Gracie Jiu-Jitsu for Teenagers
We acknowledge that these teenage years are a very important part of their lives. The people they meet and experiences they have will shape their lives. Having positive role models is important so we treat this responsibility seriously. Every student is respected equally and taken care of. Discipline, mindfulness, courage and respect for others and themselves are some of the ideas we share.
