Gracie Jiu-Jitsu for Adults

Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a very effective real martial art. It’s taught to and used by law enforcement, military personnel and UFC fighters. By its design anyone can use this self-defense method.

The adult program at Gracie Minchinbury caters to all levels from white to black belt. We are a competitive but family friendly gym where everyone will feel welcome.

We are dedicated to seeing everyone’s progression no matter the style or approach you have. That is why we diversify our teaching to support all styles of Jiu-Jitsu.

We at Gracie Minchinbury always maintain a safe learning environment. Over-aggression and sexual harassment are not tolerated. We encourage respect and care for other students.

We’ve taught students as young as 4 and as old as 60 who have enjoyed and learnt the art. There’s no one way to do jiu-jitsu there is always something for everyone.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for Self-Defense

Our Self-defense curriculum will teach you grappling solutions to all types of attacks. The methods taught do not rely on striking so they are okay to train against resistance for all ages. This allows you to develop your confidence day to day knowing you can defend yourself.

Common standing attacks are the focus throughout the Gracie self defense curriculum. These attacks will include things such as punches, kicks, holds and strangles. All have a simple Jiu-Jitsu answers which are safe to train with resistance.

It is important to know how to protect yourself from a punch. We teach a punch block system that relies on distant management and counter attacks. The system covers every position from a standing headlock to being on the ground pinned. We teach you not only how to escape but give you the power to fight back.

Our program is perfect for men and women of all levels.

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Fundamentals

At Gracie Minchinbury our fundamental program caters to beginners. You will learn all the necessary techniques, concepts, rules, safety and etiquette needed. This gives you your basic game plan to build upon in our other programs.

The class begins with a warm-up of essential Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu movements. Next we explain basic techniques and positions then practice them with a partner. Afterwards they are then used

with progressive resistance to improve efficiency.

Proper supervision is essential to continue training safe for a lifetime. This is why we always have an experienced Gracie instructor present. We watch for dangerous situations arising and student’s conduct.

No Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

No gi refers to the uniform requirements of the class. Uniforms required for this class include a Gracie rash guard plus shorts or gi pants. Any Gracie rash guard will do though purchasing your rash guard at the gym is an option that most do. If competing in no gi your rash guard must have at least 10% of the colour of your rank.

Without the gi the approach, speed and techniques can change. You are not allowed to hold material in no gi training. New ways to control are learnt due to this rule change. This lack of friction and sweat generally causes faster exchanges or scrambles.

There are many benefits to training no gi such as improving your offense due to lack of friction. Meaning you must learn to control better without using material to “cheat”. Adapting to different strategies keeps the journey fresh.

Your jiu-jitsu improves when you train no gi as everything carries over to the gi classes. Some people prefer the speed and scrambles of no gi compared to training in the gi. It’s great to rest your fingers or enjoy less laundry.
